On the symmetry of Welch- and Golomb-constructed Costas arrays

چکیده
We prove that Welch Costas arrays are in general not symmetric and that there exist two special families of symmetric Golomb Costas arrays: one is the well-known Lempel family, while the other, although less well known, leads actually to the construction of dense Golomb rulers. © 2008 Elsevier B.V. Three experimental pearls in Costas arrays
The results of 3 experiments in Costas arrays are presented, for which theoretical explanation is still not available: the number of dots on the main diagonal of exponential Welch arrays, the parity populations of Golomb arrays generated in fields of characteristic 2, and the maximal cross-correlation between pairs of Welch or Golomb arrays generated in fields of size equal to a Sophie Germain ...
متن کاملThree challenges in Costas arrays
We present 3 open challenges in the field of Costas arrays. They are: a) the determination of the number of dots on the main diagonal of a Welch array, and especially the maximal such number for a Welch array of a given order; b) the conjecture that the fraction of Welch arrays without dots on the main diagonal behaves asymptotically as the fraction of permutations without fixed points and henc...
متن کاملResults of the enumeration of Costas arrays of order 29
This correspondence presents the results of the enumeration of Costas arrays of order 27: all arrays found, except for one, are accounted for by the Golomb and Welch construction methods.
متن کاملThe enumeration of Costas arrays of order 28 and its consequences
The results of the enumeration of Costas arrays of order 28 are presented: all arrays found are accounted for by the Golomb and Welch construction methods, making 28 the first order (larger than 5) for which no sporadic Costas arrays exist. The enumeration was performed on several computer clusters and required the equivalent of 70 years of single CPU time. Furthermore, a classification of Cost...
متن کاملParity properties of Costas arrays defined via finite fields
A Costas array of order n is an arrangement of dots and blanks into n rows and n columns, with exactly one dot in each row and each column, the arrangement satisfying certain specified conditions. A dot occurring in such an array is even/even if it occurs in the i-th row and j-th column, where i and j are both even integers, and there are similar definitions of odd/odd, even/odd and odd/even do...
